- Only team in school history to advance to the NCAA Tournament “Final Four.” 

- Led by former MBA All-Star Randy Smith, the Bengals finished 22-5 overall and won the SUNYAC Championships. 

- Playing in what was then referred to as the NCAA’s College Division, posted tournament wins over Stony Brook, Montclair State and Stetson. 

- Smith averaged 26.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. Glenn Henley averaged 16.7 points while Ken Zak and captain Tom Borschel averaged 15.9 and 10.5 points respectively. 

- Team was the first at Buffalo State to play under the moniker “Bengals.”  Team opened the regular season against Toronto as the Orangemen but returned from locker room for the second half as the Bengals. 

- Roster also included Pat Abulone, Dennis Adams, Joe Bienko, Mike Coleman, John McIntosh, Jeff McLimans, Brian North, Dave Robinson and John Rosetti.  Howard McAdam served as head coach, assisted by Don O’Brien.
