• Russell competed as a high jumper at Buffalo State for four years.

• He was a four-year SUNYAC Outdoor Champion.

• He also won the SUNYAC indoor title in 1992.

• Russell earned All-American status, placing fifth at the NCAA Division lll Indoor Championships in 1992.

• Russell was also a two-time runner-up at the New York State Championships and added a third-place finish as well.

• He was a two-time SUNYAC champion in the 4 x 400 relay.
