- While at Buffalo State Orzel played 4 years of both football and lacrosse.

- He was named to the Club Football All-American team in 1980 as a freshman nose guard.

-He captained the team all 4 years and was also among the leading tacklers on the 1981-83 teams.

-Orzel was named to the All-SUNYAC team as a senior.

- Orzel also won the Hube Coyer Award.
