BUFFALO, NY—Medaille (1-0) used a 16-4 run late in the first half to gain a lead it would not relinquish in a 57-51 win over Buffalo State (0-1) in the season-opener tonight in the Sports Arena.

Amanda Boron (Lockport/Sanborn) led Medaille with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Carissa Ferucci (Hamburg/Immaculata) also had 12 points, and Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) tallied 10 points and grabbed 11 boards.

Shareese Hamer (Erie, PA/Strong Vincent) paced Buffalo State with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) added 10 points and seven boards, and Jessica Clark (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) had 10 points and five assists.

Buffalo State jumped out to a14-7 lead, but Medaille rallied late in the first half and led 35-24 at the intermission. The Bengals cut the deficit to two with 1:31 remaining, but Medaille hit its free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Buffalo State will host the Betty Abgott Invitational this Saturday and Sunday, featuring Medaille, Keuka and Albany College of Pharmacy.
