BUFFALO, NY—No. 6 Oswego (5-1/3-0) scored twice in the final 1:33 of regulation, and Chris Laganiere (Owego, NY) scored in overtime as the Lakers rallied to beat Buffalo State (3-5/2-2) 3-2 in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Ice Arena.
Cory Park (Mississauga, ON/St. Joseph) opened the scoring for the Bengals with a power-play goal midway through the first period, and then assisted on a
Joe Curry (Indian River, ON/Norwood District) goal just 1:05 into the second frame to give Buffalo State a 2-0 lead.
The Bengals held the two-goal advantage until Tyler Lyon (Foxboro, ON) scored with an assist from Ryan Ellis (Georgetown, ON) with just 1:33 remaining in the third period. Buffalo State sent a man to the box on a slashing penalty with just 19 seconds remaining, and Ellis scored for the Lakers just six seconds later to even the score.
Buffalo State was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind 1:51 into overtime, and Laganiere ended the game with a power-play marker from Matt Whitehead (Newmarket, ON).
Oswego outshot Buffalo State, 37-20. Zach Grasley (Ancater, ON/St. Mary's) made 34 saves for the Bengals, and Paul Beckwith (Cleveland, OH) had 18 stops for the Lakers.
Buffalo State will return to action next Saturday with another home conference game against Fredonia.
