CORTLAND, NY—Buffalo State (1-3) earned its first win of the “Jen Breier” era, defeating Plattsburgh, before dropping a five-setter against Baptist Bible today at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.

Buffalo State picked up its first win of the season in today's opener, sweeping Plattsburgh, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-14. Katelyn Grew (Lackawanna/Mt. Mercy) led the offense with nine kills. Maria Schaffstall (Elma/Iroquois) had 20 digs, and Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) added 27 assists.

In the late match, Baptist Bible outlasted the Bengals, 19-25, 25-20, 25-7, 20-25 and 15-7. Grew and Lauren Palisano (Buffalo/Holy Angels) had eight kills each. Schaffstall had 38 digs, and Ottaviano dished out 28 assists.

Buffalo State will return to action in Potsdam for the North Country Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
