BUFFALO, NY— Buffalo State (13-11) hosted the Medaille Mavericks (15-5) on “Dig for the Cure” night to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and went the distance and beyond winning the fifth and deciding set 24-22 to win the match 3-2.
Each team won alternating sets with Buffalo State taking the first, third and fifth sets 26-24, 25-23, and 24-22 respectively, while the Mavericks won the second and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-23 respectively.
The Bengals were led by
Katelyn Grew (Lackawanna/Mount Mercy) who had 14 kills and also tied for the team lead in blocks with seven with Allison Pierce (Olcott/Newfane).
Brittany Dorobiala's (Lancaster/Lancaster) 32 digs led Buffalo State. The Mavericks' Holley McAllister (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) posted 37 digs while Meghan Fahy (Kendall/Kendall) had 24 kills including a .367 hitting percentage.
Buffalo State's next action is Saturday, October 17 as it will participate in a tri-match at Hilbert College. The Bengals will play at 1 p.m. against La Roche College and again at 3 p.m. against the host team Hilbert.
