Willie Hordge (Buffalo/Forrestbrook (TX)) had 12 carries for 168 yards and scored three touchdowns of 26, 74 and 52 yards to lead Buffalo State (2-7/2-6) to a 47-20 victory over host Morrisville State (1-9/1-8) in an NJAC contest today at Andy Kerr Stadium on the campus of Colgate University.
Buffalo State raced out to a 33-0 lead and coasted to its second victory of the season, piling up 191 rushing yards while limiting the Mustangs to negative-14 yards on the ground.
Ryan Lehotsky (N. Royalton, OH/N. Royalton) was 12 of 21 for 158 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Joseph Hlywa (Rochester/Edison Tech) was his favorite target, catching four balls for 65 yards.
Matt Pacana (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) led the Bengals' defense with two interceptions, including a pick-six, and added three tackles.
Jermaine Rose (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) had five tackles, including two sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.
Jamieson Crast led Morrisville's attack, going 21 of 44 for 344 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Kyle Gordon had seven catches for 155 yards and two scores, and Joe Shue had four grabs for 102 yards and a score.
Hordge got the Bengals off and running, giving the Bengals a 6-0 lead on a 26-yard run in the first quarter, and pushed the lead to 13-0 with a 74-yard scamper on the first play of the second quarter.
Sammy Smith (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) pushed the Bengals lead to 19-0 with a 7-yard run, before Pacana brought an interception back 44 yards for a score with just four seconds remaining in the half, making the score 27-0 at the intermission.
After
Jermaine Rose (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) forced a Morrisville fumble on its first possession of the second half, Hordge extended the Bengals' lead to 33-0 racing 52 yards for a touchdown on the very next play.
Morrisville answered on the second play of its next possession with a 80-yard catch and run from Crast to Gordon, but the Bengals answered with a long pass play of its own later in the third quarter.
Sherman Nelson (Buffalo/O'Hara) reeled in his only catch of the day, a 42-yard scoring strike from Lehotsky, making the score, 40-6.
Morrisville found the end zone once more in the third quarter on a 7-yard pass from Crast to Shue. The Mustangs added a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns on a 40-yard fumble recovery and return by Sean McDaniel, and a 4-yard pass from Crast to Gordon with just 27 seconds remaining to complete the scoring.
“Every week it comes down to execution and this week we executed very well for the first 30 minutes,” said Buffalo State coach
Jerry Boyes. “That led to big plays and made the difference today.”
Buffalo State will close out the 2009 season next Saturday with a noon kickoff in the annual I-90 Bowl against Brockport at Coyer Field.
