Cortland Ends Men’s Basketball's Season, 68-65

BUFFALO, NY— Carson Niehoff (West Islip/West Islip) had 21 points and six assists to pace Cortland (12-14) past host Buffalo State (14-11), 68-65, in a SUNYAC quarterfinal game tonight at the Sports Arena.

Mike Lewis (Brewerton/Central Square) netted 18 points. Juan Miolan (Troy/Troy) added 10 points and eight assists, and Paul Oliver (Phoenix/Phoenix) had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Jamar Gray (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) led Buffalo State with 15 points and seven assists. #A.J. White# (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds, and James Tyndal (Bronx/Msgr. Scanlon) had 11 points.

Cortland led 38-36 at the intermission. After falling behind briefly early in the second half, the Red Dragons took the lead for good at 43-40 with 15:42 remaining with a Niehoff 3-pointer. Cortland pushed its lead to as many as nine, but the Bengals rallied to cut the deficit to 65-63 with 1:15 remaining. Cortland put the game away with seven seconds remaining when Miolan got free for a breakaway layup and completed the three-point play to push the lead to 67-63. The Bengals added a bucket at the buzzer.

Cortland will advance to the 6 p.m. semifinal on Friday with the opponent and location to be determined.
