BUFFALO, NY—
Steve Orfanos (East Meadow/East Meadow) scored what proved to be the game-winner on a diving header off a cross from
Stephen Galante (Tonawanda/Canisius) as Buffalo State (5-3-1/1-0-1) defeated visiting New Paltz (4-3-1/0-2), 2-1, in a SUNYAC game today at Coyer Field.
Buffalo State dodged a couple of early chances by the Hawks and finally opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when
Brandon Loncar (Kenmore/Kenmore East) scored his third goal of the season with an assist from
Mike Hart (Baldwin Place/Somers). Orfanos pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute. Harrison Lane (Glenmont/Bethlehem) put New Paltz on the score board when he connected on a pass from Dave Gardiner (Maltz/Ballston Spa) in the 68th minute, but the Hawks could not get the equalizer.
New Paltz held a narrow 10-9 advantage in shots.
Brian Dudek (Niskayuna/Cheshire Academy) made three saves for Buffalo State, and Peter Carmel (Ronkonkoma/Stony Brook) had two stops for the Hawks.
Buffalo State will host Oneonta tomorrow at 4 p.m., and New Paltz will travel to Fredonia.
