MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Four third-period goals propelled Johnson & Wales (5-9) to a 6-4 victory over visiting Buffalo State (5-10-1) in a non-conference game today at the New England Sports Center.
Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) led the Bengals with a goal and two assists. Defenseman
Sean Murray (Burlington, ON/Notre Dame) scored his first career goal and had an assist, and D'Arcy Thomas (Gatineau, PQ/Philemon Wright) and
Connor King (Nashville, TN/Brentwood) each added markers for Buffalo State in the loss.
After Johnson & Wales jumped out to a 2-0 lead, the Bengals battled back to even the score at 2-2 going into the third period. The Wildcats scored three times in less than four minutes in the middle of the final frame to pull away. After the Bengals cut the deficit to 5-3, Johnson & Wales put the game away with an empty-netter. Buffalo State netted the game's final goal in the closing minute.
Buffalo State held 31-27 edge in shots on goal.
Alan Fritch (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) allowed five goals, making 21 saves. Both teams were 2 for 5 on the power play.
Buffalo State will seek revenge against Johnson & Wales tomorrow at 6:10 p.m.
