Men’s Basketball Sneaks Past Fredonia, 70-67

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (7-9/5-5) and Fredonia (7-9/5-5) traded the lead 20 times before Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) hit a late 3-pointer to finally give the host Bengals the lead for good in a 70-67 victory in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.

Norman Simmons (Rochester/East) led Buffalo State with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Jake Simmons added 16 points, and Antonio Samedi (St. Albans/Queens Vocational) netted 13 points.

James Kane (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) led Fredonia with 15 points and added eight boards and five assists. Greg MacBride (Clifton Springs/Newark) added 11 points and seven assists for the Blue Devils.

The game featured vastly contrasting offensive styles, evident by Buffalo State's four assists on 24 field goals, compared to 19 assists on 26 buckets for Fredonia.

The first half saw 10 lead changes and ended even at 30-30. The back-and-forth action continued in the second half until Simmons broke a 65-65 tie with his fourth 3-pointer with 47 seconds remaining. Fredonia launched a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds, but Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) swatted the ball out of the air to preserve the win.

Buffalo State will next travel to Geneseo on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
