BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (9-8/4-6) overcame and 11-point deficit in the final eight minutes to claim a 64-59 victory over visiting Fredonia (8-8/4-6) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.
Kristin Ritch (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) led the Bengals with 14 points, including hitting 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute.
Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Divine Sebuharara (Vestal/Vestal) recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, and
Dee Layne (Brooklyn/E. NY Family Academy) had six points and 12 rebounds.
Katie Landy (Jamestown/Southwestern) paced the Blue Devils with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Merissa Gaeta (Kirkwood/Windsor) chipped in 10 points and nine boards.
Buffalo State jumped out to a 20-13 lead, but the Blue Devils answered with a 19-5 run and carried a 34-28 advantage into the intermission. Fredonia extended its lead to 51-40 with 7:54 remaining, before Buffalo State clamped down on defense and began its rally. The Bengals used an 11-0 run to even the score at 51-51. Buffalo State took the lead for good at 55-53 with 2:25 remaining and hit enough free throws to keep Fredonia at bay.
Buffalo State's next game action will be at Geneseo on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
