Men’s Basketball Downs Potsdam, 80-67

Jake Simmons hit seven first-half 3-pointers in the win

BUFFALO, NY—Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) scored a game-high 24 points including seven first-half 3-pointers to lift Buffalo State (3-5/2-1) over visiting Potsdam (1-8/0-4), 80-67, in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Antonio Samedi (St. Albans/Queens Vocational) netted 16 points and had eight rebounds to bolster the Bengals' attack. Glenroy Carr (Buffalo/Sweet Home) recorded his second double-double in as many days with 14 points and 11 boards, and added four assists and three steals, while Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) tossed in 11 points off the bench.

Skip Schwartz (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) led Potsdam with 15 points. Olando Minott (Bronx/Samuel Gompers) added 14 points, and Anthony Williams (Brentwood/Upper Rm. Christian) chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds.

After falling in an early six-point hole, Buffalo State took the lead with 7:34 remaining in the first half and never trailed again. After leading 45-38 at the intermission, the Bengals led by as many as 19 in the second half before coasting to the win. The Bengals shot 47-percent from long range, outscoring the Bears 24-12 from beyond the arc.

Buffalo State will host D'Youville on Tuesday at 8 p.m. for a non-conference game.
