OSWEGO, NY—Buffalo State (13-17/4-4) wrapped up the SUNYAC regular season today and clinched a berth in the playoffs for the first time since 2002, upsetting Geneseo (12-20/5-3) in straight sets, before falling in five sets to Brockport (9-22/3-5).

Buffalo State cruised past Geneseo in the morning match, 26-24, 25-18 and 25-19. Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) pounded out 10 kills to lead the Bengals. Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo/City Honors) added 27 assists, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) had 19 digs.

With the playoff seedings already set, the Bengals lost in five sets to Brockport in the late match 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 6-15. Ottaviano led the attack again with 11 kills. Kazmierczak had 37 assists, and Moore chipped in 14 digs.

Buffalo State clinched a berth in the SUNYAC playoffs, sewing up the third spot in the west. The Bengals will play New Paltz (the No. 2 seed in the east) in the SUNYAC quarterfinals at Fredonia on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. The Bengals next action will be a non-conference match at Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
