BUFFALO, NY—Freshman
Mac Balson (Lakefield, ON/Adam Scott CVI) scored his first collegiate goal with just 51 seconds remaining and added a pair of assists to lift Buffalo State (2-2/2-2) to a 5-4 victory over visiting Brockport (0-5/0-4) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Ice Arena.
Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) added a goal and three assists,
Shane Avery (Ft. Covington, NY/Salmon River) had a goal and two assists, and
Mike Connolly (Shoreham, NY/Sault Area) and
Trevor McKinney (Oakwood, ON/Sinclair) had a goal and an assist each for Buffalo State.
Brockport scored the lone goal of the first period before Buffalo State appeared to take control of the game with three second period goals, including Connolly's first of his career, to carry a two-goal lead into the final frame. Brockport evened the score with two goals just 1:10 apart early in the third period. McKinney reclaimed the lead for the Bengals midway through the period, but Brockport answered again just two minutes later. Balson finally gave the Bengals the lead for good when he slammed home a rebound in the closing seconds.
Buffalo State outshot Brockport 31-25 for the game, after being outshot 7-4 in the first period. Freshman
Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) made 21 saves for Buffalo State. Brockport finished 2 for 7 on the power play, and Buffalo State was 0 for 3.
Buffalo State will host Geneseo tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
