BUFFALO, NY—
Jake Simmons (Rochester/School for the Arts) tied a school record, hitting eight 3-pointers, leading Buffalo State (1-0) to an 87-59 victory over host D'Youville (0-1) in a non-conference game tonight.
Simmons finished with a game-high 24 points, hitting 8 of 12 from beyond the arc.
Chris Cartwright (Binghamton/Binghamton) added 20 points and five assists, and
Glenroy Carr (New York/Sweet Home) had 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Bengals led wire-to-wire, racing to a 58-33 lead at the intermission, and never looked back. Buffalo State hit 13 of 26 as a team from 3-point range, outscoring D'Youville 39-3 from long range. The 13 3-pointers also set a school single-game record.
Buffalo State will host Point Park on Friday at 8 p.m. in the opening game of the three-team Coles Classic.
