Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds to propel host Buffalo State (3-0) to a championship with a 65-55 victory over Grove City (1-2) in the Betty Abgott Invitational today at the Sports Arena. Sage (1-2) dominated Hilbert (0-2), 77-31, in the consolation game.
Barb Kiliszek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) added 13 points and five steals for the Bengals in the title game.
Kristin Ritch (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry) scored 15 points, hitting 5 of 7 from beyond the arc, and
Dee Layne (Brooklyn, NY/E. NY Family) had 13 rebounds and four points.
Christine Slater (Aliquippa, PA/Center) led Grove City's offense with 20 points. Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Twp., PA/Seneca Valley) added 15 points, and Leah Gibson (N. Canton, OH/Hoover) had 13 points and five boards for the Wolverines.
Buffalo State never trailed in the second half after holding a 27-24 lead at the half. The Bengals pulled away down the stretch, leading by as many as 13 en route to the 10-point win. Buffalo State's bench outscored the Wolverines reserves 18-3, and the Bengals held a 21-6 scoring advantage from 3-point range.
In the first game, Sage raced out to a 15-0 lead and continued to pull away for the 46-point win. Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) led the Gators with 14 points and added five assists. Carly Vallee (E. Greenbush, NY/Catholic) scored 13 points, and Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) chipped in 12. Julie Bossard (Arkport, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) paced Hilbert with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
