Men’s Hockey Blanks Skidmore, 4-0

Alan Fritch made 24 saves for his first career shutout
(BOX SCORE)

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY—Senior Alan Fritch (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) made 24 saves for his first collegiate shutout and Buffalo State (5-2-1) pushed its unbeaten streak to six games, blanking host Skidmore (1-3), 4-0, in the opening game of the Skidmore Invitational today at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink.

Trevor McKinney (Oakwood, ON/Sinclair) tallied two goals and two assists to pace the Bengals' offense. Justin Knee (Centralia, ON/S. Huron) added a goal and two assists, and Mac Balson (Lakefield, ON/Adam Scott CVI) also scored.

McKinney netted a shorthanded goal that proved to be the game-winner late in the opening period. Knee chipped in a power-play goal in the second stanza, before Balson and McKinney added insurance markers in the third.

The Thoroughbreds outshot Buffalo State, 24-18, but finished 0 of 5 on the power play and could not get one past Fritch in his first action of the season. Fritch got the start after Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) had an equipment issue just prior to the opening faceoff.

Buffalo State will face the winner of Southern Maine and Elmira in tomorrow's championship game at 4 p.m.
