BROCKPORT, NY— Buffalo State (10-12/8-8) dominated first-place Brockport (15-8/11-5) in the paint, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 45-25 en route to an 85-80 victory in a SUNYAC game tonight at Tuttle North Arena.
Antonio Samedi (St. Albans/Queens Vocational) led the Bengals with 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds. #T.O. Jackson# (Bronx/Bronx Regional) controlled the game with 23 points and a game-high 18 rebounds while dishing out five assists.
Norman Simmons (Rochester/East) added 12 points, and
Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) scored 11.
In addition to the lopsided rebounding advantage, Buffalo State also outscored Brockport 46-20 in the paint. The Bengals led 46-37 at the intermission and led by as many as 11 in the second half. Brockport battled back and led 78-77 with 2:31 remaining. Buffalo State answered with a pair of free throws on the next possession to reclaim a lead it would not relinquish. Brockport outscored Buffalo State 36-3 from 3-point range, but the Bengals inside dominance was too much to overcome.
The Bengals will host Cortland on Friday at 8 p.m. Buffalo State will hold a tribute to the late 3-sport All-American Randy Smith at halftime.
