Oswego Tops Men’s Basketball, 68-61

BUFFALO, NY—Oswego (13-12/7-11) controlled the play in the paint to defeat host Buffalo State (11-13/9-9), 68-61, in the SUNYAC regular season finale today at the Sports Arena.

The Lakers outrebounded the Bengals, 45-35, and outscored Buffalo State 44-34 in the paint. Hayden Ward (Montauk/East Hampton) paced three Oswego players in double-figures with 14 points. Stanley Francois (Valley Cottage/Suffern) added 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Sean Michelle (E. Rochester/E. Rochester) netted 11 points. Chad Burridge (Hannibal/Hannibal) chipped in nine points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five blocks.

Antonio Samedi (St. Albans/Queens Vocational) led Buffalo State with 17 points, seven boards and four blocks. Glenroy Carr (Amherst/Sweet Home) had 12 points and seven rebounds. Jake Simmons (Rochester/School for the Arts) and #T.O. Jackson# (Bronx/Bronx Regional) scored 10 points each.

After trailing 10-8 in the early going, Oswego used a strong first period to take a 38-24 lead into halftime. The Lakers pushed the lead to 18 early in the second half, but Buffalo State used a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to 48-45 midway through the period. Oswego stretched the lead back to double-digits again and held the Bengals off down the stretch.

The Bengals clinched the No. 5 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs and will travel to No. 4 Brockport for a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
