Brockport Bounces Men’s Basketball from SUNYAC Playoffs in Overtime

BROCKPORT, NY— Jermaine Johnson hit a layup and knocked down a free throw to complete the 3-point play with nine seconds remaining in overtime to give No. 4 seeded Brockport (16-10) a 68-67 win over visiting No. 5 Buffalo State (11-14) in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals at Tuttle North Gymnasium.

Senior Antonio Samedi (St. Albans/Queens Vocational) closed out his Buffalo State career with 17 points and 10 rebounds. #T.O. Jackson# (Bronx/Bronx Regional) added 14 points and 12 boards. Glenroy Carr (Amherst/Sweet Home) also scored 14 points, and Norman Simmons (Rochester/East) had 12 points and six assists.

Gerald Williams led Brockport with 19 points. Johnson had 13 points, and Zack McTigue added 10 points.

Brockport led 30-25 at halftime and bumped its lead to as many as 13 at 48-35 early in the second period. The Bengals still trailed by 12 with six minutes remaining, before mounting a 15-3 run, capped by Jackson hitting 1 of 2 free throws with 1:26 remaining to even the score at 63-63. Neither team could score in the final minute, forcing the extra period. Buffalo State began overtime with Samedi scoring the first four points, but Brockport answered with the game's final five points to escape with the win and advance.

Buffalo State outrebounded the undersized Golden Eagles, 40-25, but Brockport outscored the Bengals 40-18 in the paint. Brockport also exploited 26 Buffalo State turnovers to create a 29-14 advantage in points off turnovers.
