St. John Fisher Races Past Football, 54-26

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (0-1) scored first, but St. John Fisher (2-0) responded with 47-consecutive points en route to a 54-26 victory in a non-conference contest today at Coyer Field.

St. John Fisher quarterback Tim Bailey (East Aurora/East Aurora) was 18 of 25 for 340 yards, matching a school record with five touchdown tosses, and set a new school best with 52 career scoring throws. Ryan Schmidt (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) was Bailey's favorite target, catching seven balls for 152 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Francis (Batavia/Notre Dame) added four grabs for 87 yards.

The Cardinals racked up 533 total yards of offense and punted just twice, moving the chains 25 times. Buffalo State totaled 331 yards and had 11 first downs.

Buffalo State sophomore quarterback Ryan Lehotsky (N. Royalton, OH/N. Royalton) was 12 of 20 for 277 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Jarrett Smith (Beacon/Beacon) had four catches for 152 yards and two long scores. Rob Smith (Rochester/McQuaid) had four catches for 85 yards. Brandon Hodgins (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) led the Bengals' defense with 12 tackles.

Buffalo State took the opening possession and marched 60 yards in 10 plays, capped by a 2-yard touchdown reception by Blake Malizia (Rockville Centre/South Side).

St. John Fisher reversed its fortunes on its first possession and never looked back, piling up 40-straight points to close the first half ahead by a 40-7 count. FuQuan Borom (Syracuse/Corcoran) found the end zone first for the Cardinals on an 8-yard run.

Schmidt made his way into the end zone for three of the Cardinals next four scoring plays, reeling in touchdown receptions from Bailey covering 47, 27 and 33 yards respectively. St. John Fisher also scored on a 35-yard interception return by Shawn Masood (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) and an 18-yard reception by Ryan Kramer (Oneida/Oneida).

St. John Fisher extended its lead on the opening possession of the second half with a 15-yard scoring strike from Bailey to Scott Allis (Hilton/Hilton).

Buffalo State closed the gap, scoring three of the game's final four touchdowns with a 4-yard run by Gibran Johnson (Buffalo/Dutchtown (GA)) and a pair of touchdown catches by Jarrett Smith of 60 and 69 yards. Cody Miller (Spencerport/Spencerport) had the Cardinals' final score, plunging into the end zone from one yard out.

Buffalo State will travel to Cortland next Saturday, and St. John Fisher will visit the U. of Rochester.
