BUFFALO, NY—Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo/City Honors) had 31 assists and three aces as Buffalo State (6-4) battled past visiting Medaille (4-4) in four sets tonight in its home opener at the Sports Arena.

The Bengals claimed the opening set 25-18 and were serving for the second set at 24-22, before the Mavericks rallied to steal the set, 26-24. Buffalo State responded, however, taking the final two sets 25-23 and 25-15 respectively.

Allyson Pierce (Olcott/Newfane) led the Bengals' offense with nine kills. Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) added eight kills and three blocks, and Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) also had eight kills.

Janine Benkelman (Eden/Eden) led Medaille with 18 kills, and Megan Lomax (Albion/Wayne) had 19 assists and four aces.

Buffalo State will travel back to the North Country this weekend for the Plattsburgh Invitational. The Bengals will open with Baruch and Old Westbury on Friday.
