CORTLAND, NY—Cortland (2-0/2-0) racked up 223 rushing yards, compared to just 15 by Buffalo State (0-2/0-1), as the host Red Dragons rolled to a 35-7 victory in an NJAC contest today at SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Cortland held a 385-225 edge in total offense and converted three Bengal fumbles into 14 points. Justin Autera led the Red Dragons attack with 134 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns. Quarterback Dan Pitcher was 17 of 28 for 162 yards with a touchdowns and two interceptions.

Buffalo State sophomore quarterback Ryan Lehotsky (N. Royalton, OH/N. Royalton) was 19 of 35 for 194 yards and a touchdown. Rob Smith (Rochester/McQuaid) was his favorite target, reeling in a new school record 13 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. Matthew Krumm (Buffalo/Clarence) was the Bengals' leading tackler with 10 stops, and Joseph Schriever (E. Amherst/Williamsville East) and Josh Mims (Syracuse/Nottingham) each had an interception.

Buffalo State picked off a Cortland pass on the third play of the game from scrimmage, but the Bengals were forced to punt on their first series. Cortland converted a 9-play, 69-yard drive into the game's first points on its next possession, with a 12-yard run for Autera's first touchdown of the day.

The teams traded possessions the rest of the first quarter with a pair of lost fumbles by the Bengals and another Cortland interception, before the Red Dragons blew the game open with two more scores in the second quarter – a 5-yard Autera run and a 25-yard reception by Mike Humphrey from Pitcher.

Buffalo State cut into the deficit with a 9-yard strike from Lehotsky to Smith midway through the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Bengals would get in the second half.

Cortland regained the 21-point lead on Autera's third score, from 20 yards, and then capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard fumble recovery return by Bill Smith.

Buffalo State will welcome Kean University to Coyer Field for next Saturday's “Homecoming” at Coyer Field at noon.
