GENESEO, NY—Buffalo State (10-7/2-0) started league play with a pair victories, stopping Brockport (3-12/0-2) in straight sets, and downed Oswego (5-11/0-2) in four, in the opening round of SUNYAC Pool Play today at Geneseo.

The Bengals defeated Brockport 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19 in the opener. The win was the first by Buffalo State over the Golden Eagles since 2002. Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) led Buffalo State with 11 kills, while Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo/City Honors) had 34 assists, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) had 10 digs.

In the late match, the Bengals outlasted Oswego, 31-29, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-12. Kazmierczak had 46 assists. Allyson Pierce (Olcott/Newfane) had 14 kills, and Ottaviano had 12, and Moore had 16 digs.

Buffalo State will continue the first round of Pool Play tomorrow against Geneseo and Fredonia.
