Glenroy Carr (New York/Sweet Home) hit a go-ahead layup with 33 seconds left and added a late free throw as Buffalo State (11-6/6-5) edged Cortland (6-12/3-8), 70-68, in a SUNYAC game today.
Carr finished with nine points.
Jake Simmons (Rochester/School for the Arts) led the Bengals with 23 points.
Chris Cartwright (Binghamton/Binghamton) added 16 points and four assists, and
Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) had 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Cortland held a 33-30 edge at halftime, but Buffalo State pulled ahead early in the second half with an 8-0 run. The Red Dragons kept the game tight and pulled ahead 68-67 with less than a minute remaining, but Carr's late layup put the Bengals back in front. Carr also hit 1 of 2 free throws with 16 seconds remaining and the Bengals' forced the Red Dragons to attempt a 30-footer at the buzzer that glanced off the left side of the rim.
Buffalo State will play at Geneseo on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
