Men’s Soccer Season Ends with 3-2 Loss to New Paltz

Tom Winski scored a goal in his final game as a Bengal
(BOX SCORE)

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State's (6-9-2/-8) comeback rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to visiting New Paltz (8-8-1/4-4-1) in the season finale today at Coyer Field.

Harrison Lane opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and Tommy Garafola gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute.  Jimmy Altadonna assisted on both goals.

Buffalo State cut the deficit in half just under two minutes later, when Tom Winski (Toronto, ON/Dante Alghieri) netted his first goal of the season with an assist from fellow senior Tony Schiappa (Amherst/Williamsville East).  Altadonna reclaimed the two-goal lead for New Paltz in the 28th minute, however, and the Hawks took that advantage into the intermission.

The scoring chances were limited for much of the second half, until Andrew Dugan (Schenectady/Colonie) sparked a spirited charge by the Bengals with a long unassisted strike in the 77th minute.

Play turned chippy down the stretch and several cards were issued, but Buffalo State was unable to pull even.

New Paltz outshot Buffalo State 17-10 for the game, but the Bengals had a 5-4 edge in the second half.  Tom Viscardi made five stops in the win for New Paltz, and Ben Spilman (Queensbury/Glens Falls) had four stops in the loss for the Bengals.

The victory secured a playoff berth for New Paltz.
