Men’s Soccer Downs Oswego, 2-1

Kirk Love scored the game winner for Buffalo State against Oswego
(BOX SCORE)

BUFFALO, NY—Tony Schiappa (Amherst/Williamsville East) had a goal and an assist to pace Buffalo State (6-4-2/1-4) to a 2-1 win over visiting Oswego (5-7-1/0-5-1) in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at Coyer Field.

Buffalo State got on the board in the 28th minute when Schiappa was taken down from behind inside the box and converted on the penalty kick.  Oswego answered just over seven minutes later when Mike Naab (Ontario/Wayne Central) headed in a long ball from Eric Widanka (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) that fell in behind the goalkeeper.  The Lakers were forced to play a man down after Ben Nix (Painted Post/Corning-Painted Post West) picked up his second yellow card of the game at the 48:11 mark of the second half.  Kirk Love (Hamburg/Frontier) scored the game winner for the Bengals in the 70th minute when he beat Oswego's P.J. Goodwin (Baldwinsville/Wilkes University) with a shot to the far post.

Buffalo State outshot the Lakers, 14-9, and had an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.  Both Goodwin and Ben Spilman (Queensbury/Glens Falls) finished with seven saves.

Buffalo State will travel to the North Country next weekend to take on Potsdam at 4 p.m.
