BUFFALO, NY—Potsdam (2-2/1-2) overcame an early two-goal deficit and scored twice in the third period to skate away with a 3-2 victory over host Buffalo State (2-2/2-2) tonight in a SUNYAC game at the Ice Arena.
Drew Klin (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) finished with a goal and an assist for Buffalo State, and Mike Arnold scored twice and Sy Nutkevich had a goal an assist for Potsdam.
Klin opened the scoring on the Bengals' first shot just 1:12 into the game, squeezing a quick wrist shot off a faceoff through the Potsdam goalie's legs. Buffalo State made it 2-0 later in the period when
Anthony Orange (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield South) walked in from the right point and slotted a shot inside the far post. Potsdam cut the deficit in half before the end of the opening period when Arnold netted his first of two goals on a one-timer on the power play from just to the right of the goal.
After a scoreless second period, Potsdam turned it up in the final frame and stole the victory. Sy Nutkevich picked off a puck at his own blue line and sprinted down the right wing before lighting the lamp with a wrist shot high glove side midway through the final stanza. After a Buffalo State turnover in its own end, Arnold potted the game-winner with 6:48 remaining.
Buffalo State outshot Potsdam 33-31 for the game.
Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) had 28 stops for the Bengals, and Dylan Ellis made 31 saves for Potsdam.
Buffalo State will host nationally-ranked No. 5 Plattsburgh tomorrow at 7 p.m.
