Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) netted 27 points to lead nationally-ranked No. 16 Buffalo State past host Houghton (2-4), 89-74, in a non-conference game tonight to push the Bengals to 3-0 for the season.

Freshman center Anyar Majak (Rochester/Thomas Jefferson) recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to help push the Bengals past the Highlanders.  Nico McLean (Amherst/Sweet Home) also had 13 points and five steals, and Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) chipped in 11 points.

Buffalo State trailed for the first time this season at 6-5 just under four minutes into the game, but used a 9-0 run to quickly take a lead it would not relinquish.  After leading by as many as 17 late in the first half, Houghton rallied to cut the deficit to just four at 68-64 with 5:31 remaining.  Buffalo State had an answer again, using an 11-0 run in just over two minutes to pull away for good.

Buffalo State overcame a 48-37 rebounding deficit by forcing 26 turnovers, while committing just 12.

Buffalo State will next open SUNYAC play this Friday at Oneonta at 8 p.m.
