CORTLAND, NY—Buffalo State (15-20) made its second-consecutive SUNYAC playoff appearance, but dropped a four-set decision to Oneonta (18-19) in today's first quarterfinal matchup at Corland's Corey Gymnasium.
Oneonta, the third seed from the East Division, claimed the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-20. Buffalo State, the second-seed from the West, bounced back to win the third set, using a 9-1 run to take 12-7 lead and hold on to win 25-20. The Red Dragons prevailed in the final set, however, winning 25-17.
Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/E. Patchogue) led Buffalo State's offense with 11 kills and added five blocks.
Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) and
Mary Naboi (Syracuse/Nottingham) added eight kills each, and
Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) had seven kills and five blocks. Ottaviano also had 12 digs.
Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) dished out 36 assists to go with nine digs, and
Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) had a team-best 21 digs.
Buffalo State's season comes to an end with an overall record of 15-20. Oneonta advances to tomorrow's semifinals against the East's top seed Cortland.
