Box Score BUFFALO, NY—Five Bengals scored in double-figures as Buffalo State (6-0/3-0) pushed its winning streak to six to start the season, dropping visiting Cortland (5-2/3-1), 85-76, in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.

Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) led all scorers with 21 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.  Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) recorded a dominating stat line with 14 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and six blocks.  Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) chipped in 13 points and nine boards, and Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) scored 12 points, and Anthony Hamer (Brooklyn/Bishop Laughlin) had 11.

Jesse Winter (Rockville Ctr./South Side) led Cortland with 18 points.  Jeremy Smith (Bronx/Riverdale-Kingsbridge) netted 15 points and had five assists, and Brian Manning (Elmira/Southside) had 12 points, seven assists and six steals.  Freshman Max Brown (Fairport/Fairport) chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Buffalo State raced out to an 11-1 lead to open the game, but just as quickly Cortland pushed ahead by 12 at 33-21.  The Bengals closed the half with an 18-3 run, however, and led 39-36 at the intermission.  The Red Dragons led briefly early in the second half, but Buffalo State used a 13-3 run to regain the lead and create separation.  Cortland closed to within four at 80-76 with 1:25 remaining, but the Bengals scored the final five points of the contest.

Buffalo State shot 45-percent from the field and 54-percent (7 of 13) from 3-point range.  Cortland was limited to just 38-percent shooting from the floor, including 27-percent (7 of 26) from beyond the arc.  The Bengals also held a 24-14 edge in fast break points.

Buffalo State will host Oswego for another SUNYAC game tomorrow at 4 p.m.
