OSWEGO, NY—Buffalo State (21-6) took control in the second half, running away from Brockport (15-13) in a 67-50 win in the SUNYAC Championship game this afternoon at Oswego's Max Ziel Gymnasium. The championship is the league-best 18th for the Bengals and first since 2003.

The win earns the Bengals an automatic berth in NCAA Tournament and pushed the team's winning streak to 11 games.

Five Bengals scored in double-figures, led by senior Glenroy Carr (New York/Sweet Home) who posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) added 12 points and 12 boards. Chris Cartwright (Binghamton/Binghamton) also netted 12 point, Jake Simmons (Rochester/School for the Arts) had 11 points and four steals, and Norman Simmons (Rochester/East) scored 10 points.

Jon Ivy led Brockport with 16 points, and Gerald Williams chipped in 11.

Buffalo State claimed victory despite its lowest offensive output of the season. Brockport slowed the pace in the first half and hit a desperation 3-pointer off the glass at the buzzer to head into the intermission trailing just 23-22. The Golden Eagles led briefly in the second stanza before Buffalo State took the lead for good with 16 minutes remaining and never looked back. The Bengals used a 17-4 run to pull away and cruised to the victory.

The Bengals dominated Brockport inside, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 42-33, and posted a 38-24 scoring advantage in the paint. Buffalo State shot 45-percent from the field, compared to just 31-percent shooting by Brockport.

Mitchell was named MVP of the SUNYAC Championship, and Jake Simmons joined him on the All-Tournament Team.
