Men’s Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Beats New Paltz, 89-79

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (14-6/9-5) won its fourth-straight game, shooting 52-percent from the field with six players scoring in double figures in an 89-79 win over visiting New Paltz (11-8/7-6) in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

Jake Simmons (Rochester/School for the Arts) led the Bengals' attack with 24 points, including 20 in the first half. Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) added 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Chris Cartwright (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) chipped in 11 points each, and Glenroy Carr (New York/Sweet Home) had 10.

Buffalo State took control of the game with an 18-3 run in the middle of the first half and led 43-31 at the intermission. New Paltz came out running in the second half and quickly cut the margin to four, but the Bengals took over again and the lead swelled to as many as 21 before cruising to the victory. Buffalo State forced 26 New Paltz turnovers and converted those miscues into 34 points.

Buffalo State will travel to Fredonia next Friday for an 8 p.m. contest.
