AMHERST, NY—Buffalo State (1-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening half and held off host Daemen (1-1) for a 4-2 season-opening win under the lights tonight at Amherst High School.
Tony Schiappa (Williamsville/Williamsville East),
Anthony Appiani (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda),
Marikos Habtemichael (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and
Kirk Love (Hamburg/Frontier) each scored for Buffalo State, and Love also added an assist.
Buffalo State jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 38 minutes into the contest, including a pair of goals just 2:17 apart. Daemen netted its first goal in the closing minutes of the opening period, and then cut the deficit to a single goal in the 65th minute. Love extended the Bengals' lead in the 84th minute, however, and the Bengals held on for the win.
The two teams traded 15 shots apiece, and
Ben Spilman (Queensbury/Glens Falls) made five stops in the win for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will open its home schedule next Wednesday against D'Youville at 4 p.m.
