BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (6-11/2-0) was the surprise team of the opening day of SUNYAC Pool Play, pulling off a pair of straight-set upsets, defeating Geneseo (10-6/1-1) and Fredonia (8-7/1-1) today at the Sports Arena.

Buffalo State stunned Geneseo in today's opening match, racing to a 25-12, 25-23 and 25-22 victory. Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) controlled play for the Bengals, dishing out a team-best 24 assists, while adding 11 digs. Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) added 10 kills, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) had 18 digs.

The Bengals continued to roll in the late match, ripping Fredonia, 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14. Bashore posted 26 assists to go with seven kills and nine digs. Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) had a team-high eight kills, and Moore had 14 digs. Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) chipped in five kills and seven digs.

Buffalo State will continue league play at home tomorrow against Brockport and Oswego at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
