FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (8-14) dropped a pair of matches to kickoff the Fredonia Invitational today, playing a tight, four-set match against St. John Fisher (10-6), before falling in three sets to Capital (13-7).

The Bengals fell short in a back-and-forth opening match to St. John Fisher, falling 25-22, 23-25, 22-25 and 23-25.  Allyson Pierce (Olcott/Newfane) led Buffalo State with 12 kills and six blocks, and Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) had 10 kills and five blocks.   Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) added 30 assists, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) chipped in 23 digs.

Capital made short work of the Bengals in the late match, prevailing 25-10, 25-10 and 25-10.  Parente had six kills, Bashore had four kills and 15 assists, and Paige Ottaviano (Pt. Colborne, ON/Lakeshore Catholic) had eight digs.

Buffalo State will continue at the Fredonia Invitational tomorrow, opening with Mt. Aloysius at 10 a.m.
