Geneseo Knocks Off No. 21 Men’s Basketball in Overtime, 97-86

GENESEO, NY—No. 21 Buffalo State (11-3/4-3) battled back to erase an early deficit, but ultimately lost its second straight game, falling to Geneseo (5-8/3-3) 97-86 in overtime in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at Schrader Gymnasium.

Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) led Buffalo State with 29 points.  Anthony Hamer (Brooklyn/Bishop Laughlin) scored 17 points, and Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) added 16 points and nine rebounds.  Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) chipped in 10 points and seven assists.

Geneseo led 40-37 at halftime and was ahead by as many as 11 in the second half before the Bengals rallied to force overtime.  The Bengals used a late 9-0 run to get back in the game.  McLean hit 1 of 2 free throws with five seconds left to force overtime.  Buffalo State scored first in the extra period, but then Geneseo pulled away.

Buffalo State will return to its home court next Friday against Potsdam at 8 p.m.
