OBERLIN, Ohio—Buffalo State (25-7) closed out its regular season with two more victories at a tri-match, sweeping host Oberlin, before outlasting Ohio Wesleyan in five sets. The 25 wins this season are the most by the Bengals since 2001.
The Bengals cruised past Oberlin in the opener, winning 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20.
Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) pounded out nine kills, and
Hannah Renaldo (N. Collins/N. Collins) had seven kills.
Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) had 32 assists,12 digs and two blocks.
Ohio Wesleyan pushed the Bengals to the limit in the late match, but Buffalo State prevailed 27-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-27 and 15-13.
Sarah Horvath (Blasdell/Immaculata) and
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) had 12 kills each to lead Buffalo State's attack. Horvath also had a team-best 37 digs. McLean added 11 kills and seven blocks. Bashore had 45 assists and 29 digs, and
Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) added 33 digs.
Buffalo State will next play in the SUNYAC semifinals at home next Saturday at 3 p.m. against the winner of New Paltz and Oswego. The Bengals will host the entire tournament, beginning with three matches on Friday.
