Women’s Volleyball Starts New Winning Streak, Defeats Naz and Case

Kelsey Bashore had 94 assists in the two wins
FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (17-4) earned a pair of quality victories and started a new winning streak tonight, defeating Nazareth (13-8) in four sets and Case Western (15-5) in five in the opening round of the Fredonia Classic.

Buffalo State dropped the first set against Nazareth, 20-25, but then ripped off three-straight, winning 25-21, 25-21 and 25-23.  Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) led the attack with 13 kills, while Sarah Horvath (Blasdell/Immaculata) added 11 kills and 12 digs.  Hannah Renaldo (North Collins/North Collins) chipped in 10 kills, and Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) had 38 assists.  Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) added 29 digs.

The Bengals prevailed over Case in the late match, 25-17, 27-25, 20-25, 14-25 and 15-12.  Renaldo had 17 kills, and Horvath had 14 kills and 13 digs.  Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) also had 14 kills to go with four blocks, and Parente had 13 kills.  Bashore dished out 56 assists, and Moore had 35 digs. 

Buffalo State will conclude the round robin portion of the Fredonia Classic tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Pitt-Bradford.
