FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (18-5) defeated Pitt-Bradford (6-18) in five sets, before dropping a four-set match to Westminster (17-7) today in the title match at the Fredonia Classic.

Buffalo State needed five sets to defeat the Panthers in the opener, winning 25-15, 16-25, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-8.  Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) paced the Bengals with 13 kills, while Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) had 40 assists and 17 digs.  Sherrell McLean (Buffalo/City Honors) and Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) added nine kills each, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) added 29 digs.

Buffalo State won the first set against Westminster, 25-10, but then fell 12-25, 25-27 and 12-25.  Hannah Renaldo (North Collins/North Collins) had a Buffalo State-best nine kills.  Bashore had 25 assists and 24 digs, and Moore had 27 digs.

Bashore represented Buffalo State on the All-Tournament Team.

Buffalo State will host a tri-match next Saturday with Daemen and St. John Fisher.  The Bengals and Daemen will meet in the first match at 10 a.m.
