POTSDAM, NY—
Mike Zannella (Ithaca/Ithaca) netted two goals and an assists, but for the second-straight night Buffalo State (2-4-1/1-3-1) fell apart in the third period and Potsdam (3-2-0/2-2-) rallied for a 5-4 win in a SUNYAC contest.
Zannella opened the scoring, but Potsdam evened the score by the first intermission. Zannella and
Trevor McKinney (Oakwood, ON/Sinclair) each scored in the second period, giving the Bengals a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame. Potsdam cut the deficit to one just 20 seconds into the third, but
Shane Avery (Ft. Covington/Salmon River) restored the two-goal lead midway through the period. Potsdam roared back, however, evening the score with two goals just 25 seconds apart, and then netted the game-winner during a two-man advantage with 1:32 remaining.
Potsdam capitalized on seven power-play opportunities, scoring four times. The Bengals were 2 for 7 with the man advantage. Potsdam finished with a 43-33 advantage in shots.
Nick Melligan (Sanborn/Niagara-Wheatfield) had three assists for Buffalo State, and
Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) made 38 saves.
Buffalo State will visit Oswego next Friday at 7 p.m.
