Men’s Basketball Tops Hobart in Opener, 80-74, Ansari Earns 100th Win

Box Score GENEVA, NY—Six Bengals scored in double-figures as Buffalo State (1-0) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat host Hobart (1-2), 80-74, in the season opener this evening.

The win marks the 100th victory for head coach Fajri Ansari at Buffalo State.

Sophomore Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) led the Bengals with 18 points and added five assists and three steals.  Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Hamer (Brooklyn/Bishop Laughlin) had 11 points and a career-best nine assists.  Anyar Majak (Rochester/Jefferson), Seth Runge (Springville/Springville GI), and Brad Doyley (Brooklyn/HS Sports Management) netted 10 points apiece.

Buffalo State trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and found itself down 43-35 at the intermission.  The Bengals scored the first eight points of the second half, and then took the lead for good at 51-50 with 11:33 remaining.  The Bengals shot 46-percent from the field, and outscored the Statesmen, 21-12 from 3-point range.

Buffalo State will open its home schedule on Saturday at 7 p.m. when Nazareth visits the Sports Arena.
