CORTLAND, NY—Cortland (19-6/14-4) knocked down 16 3-pointers and held off visiting Buffalo State (18-7/11-7) for a 108-105 victory in today's regular-season finale.

Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) netted 32 points, hitting on 11 of 26 shots from the field, including 6 of 17 from beyond the arc, to lead the Bengals.  Sophomore Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) tallied a career-best 26 points and added eight rebounds and four assists.  Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Seth Runge (Springville/Springville Griffith) had new career bests with eight points and seven rebounds.

Cortland erased a 45-41 halftime deficit and led 86-77 with five minutes remaining in regulation, but Buffalo State battled back and knotted the score at 93-93 with a McLean jumper with just 15 seconds left.  Cortland had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but missed a shot with just two ticks on the clock. 

In the extra session, Cortland jumped out to a six-point lead, but the Bengals cut the gap to 105-103 with 17 seconds remaining.  After the Red Dragons hit just 1 of 2 free throws with 11 seconds left, Anthony Hamer (Brooklyn/Bishop Laughlin) cut it to just one with a layup with just five seconds to play.  Cortland hit a pair of free throws to push the lead back to three, and McLean missed a 3-point attempt to tie that game as time expired.

Buffalo State dominated Cortland on the glass, outrebounding the Red Dragons, 51-36.  Cortland overcame the mismatch inside, by outscoring the Bengals, 48-21, from 3-point range.

Buffalo State will open the SUNYAC playoffs as the fifth-seed and will travel to No. 4 Brockport on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
