Men’s Basketball to Visit Brockport for SUNYAC Quarterfinal on Tuesday

Jake Simmons scored 30 and 32 points in the final two regular season games
Buffalo State dropped four of its final five regular season games to fall for second-place to the No. 5 seed entering the SUNYAC playoffs.  The Bengals (18-7/11-7) will travel to No. 4 Brockport (13-12/11-7) for a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Buffalo State rode an eight-game winning streak into the postseason last year and went on to capture its 18th SUNYAC title with a 67-50 win over Brockport in the title game.  The Bengals then made their 19th NCAA playoff appearance and advanced all the way to the “Sweet 16”.

Brockport won both meetings this season, prevailing 94-70 at home on Jan. 13, and then completed the regular-season sweep with a 79-70 victory in Buffalo on Feb. 11.

Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) ranks second in school history with 1,522 points in just three seasons, and leads the Bengals again this year, averaging 20.6 points-per-game.  Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) has averaged 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, and Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) has averaged 11.4 points and has a SUNYAC-best 76 steals.  The Bengals have been without junior forward Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) who contributed 13.3 points and 7.4 rebounds-per-contest through 18 games, before getting injured.

Tickets for Tuesday's game will be available at the door at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym prior to the game.  The cost is $5 for the public and $2 for students with ID.
