BUFFALO, NY— John Carroll (4-0) dominated Buffalo State (2-2) inside and sprinted to a 111-92 victory over the host Bengals today in the Coles Classic. Ohio Northern (2-0) topped Johnson & Wales (1-3), 72-57, in the opening game.
Jake Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) was named the tournament MVP after leading John Carroll with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Simon Kucharewicz (Brook Park, OH/Midpark) had 15 points and 11 boards, and Doug Caputo (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) netted 15 points with eight rebounds.

Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) led Buffalo State with a career-high 29 points and added seven rebounds and three blocks.
Maurice Miles (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) had 14 points, while Jahnathan Belton (Amherst/Amherst) and
Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) scored 10 points each.
Buffalo State jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but John Carroll took over from there, sprinting to a 56-42 halftime advantage. The Bengals never threatened in the second half as the Blue Streaks pushed their lead to as many as 26 before emptying the bench.
John Carroll pounded the glass, outrebounding the Bengals, 59-41, and outscoring Buffalo State 62-52 in the paint. The teams combined to commit 41 fouls in the up-tempo contest. John Carroll finished 30 of 37 at the free throw line, while Buffalo State was 24-30 at the stripe.
Dominique Royal (Columbus, OH/Pickerington) led Ohio Northern to the win in the early game with a game-high 19 points. Lucas Pennington (Lyons,OH/Evergreen) added 18 points, and Branden Rushton (Columbus, OH/Reynoldsburg) poured in 16.
Robert Lewis (Providence, RI/North Platte CC) led Johnson & Wales with 18 points. Matt Barbosa (Riverside, RI/Franklin Pierce) had 16 points, and Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ohio Northern used a late push to take a 33-25 lead into the intermission. The Wildcats cut the deficit to 46-43 midway through the second half, but the Polar Bears pulled away down the stretch, allowing just two points in the final four-plus minutes.
Ohio Northern outscored Johnson & Wales 18-9 from beyond the 3-point arc and shot 46-percent from the field for the game. The Wildcats shot 40-percent from the floor.
