Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) stopped all 34 shots he faced and Buffalo State (4-2-2) defeated Elmira (5-5), 3-0, today to advance to the title game of the Skidmore Invitational.
Mike Zannella (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) had a goal and two assists,
Ryan Salkeld (Suffolk, VA/Churchland) had one goal and one assist, and
Dan Turgeon (Centennial, CO/Cherokee Trail) netted his team-leading seventh goal of the season for the Bengals.
After a scoreless first period, Buffalo State jumped in front with a pair of power-play goals by Salkeld and Zannella in the middle frame. Turgeon put the game out of reach when he put in an insurance marker with just over five minutes remaining in the third period.
Carr picked up his eighth shutout of his career and first of the season, as Elmira outshot Buffalo State, 34-32. The Bengals finished 2 for 7 on the power play, while the Soaring Eagles were just 0 for 2.
Buffalo State will play in the title game against host Skidmore tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Thoroughbreds defeated Fitchburg State, 3-1, earlier in the day to earn their shot at the tournament championship.
