CLEVELAND, Ohio—Buffalo State (2-4) played a pair of five set matches, rallying in the opener, before falling to Capital (3-4), and then outlasted host Case Western (3-3) in the late match tonight at the Marcia French Memorial Tournament.
Buffalo State dropped the first two sets against Capital, 22-25 and 17-25, before storming back to win 25-19 and 28-26, but fell short 10-15 in the deciding set. Samantha Parente's (E. Patchogue/Bellport) 19 kills led the Bengals' offense. Sarah Horvath (Blasdell/Immaculata) had seven kills and 18 digs, and Kelsey Bashore (Antwerp, OH/Antwerp) had 44 assists to go with 14 digs. Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) added seven kills and four blocks.
The Bengals worked five sets again in the nightcap prevailing 14-25, 25-18, 25-13, 18-25 and 15-12. Crooks led the way with 13 kills, and Horvath had 12 kills and 20 digs. Parente added 11 kills, while Bashore had 49 assists, and Chelsea Moore (Kenmore/Kenmore West) chipped in 33 digs.
Buffalo State will switch venues to Baldwin-Wallace tomorrow and face John Carroll at noon and the host school at 2 p.m.
