ALFRED, NY—Joe Vucic (East Aurora/East Aurora) scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season and Buffalo State (3-9-1) shut out host Alfred University (6-5-2), 1-0, in a non-conference contest this evening.
 
The Saxons outshot the Bengals 10-7 in the first half, but Buffalo State had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.  Despite the action at both ends, neither team could break through.  The Bengals tilted the field a bit more in the second half, and finally pulled ahead when Vucic gathered a bouncing ball just outside the box and flicked it over the head of the Alfred goalkeeper. 
 
Hunter Hein (E. Amherst/Clarence) preserved the shutout the rest of the way for the Bengals, finishing with eight saves.  The Bengals had a 15-14 edge in shots for the game.
 
Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play against Potsdam on Friday at 3 p.m.
